Raymond John Hancock, Jr.

Raymond John Hancock, Jr., 91, died Monday, June 13, 2011. He was born in New Haven, CT, son of the late Raymond J. and Marguerite Hancock. While stationed at Hunter Army Air Field, Mr. Hancock met his future wife, Beatrice Henderson and they were married May 16, 1943. Soon after, he was sent overseas during World War II where he served in the Mighty Eighth Air Force. He retired from Union Camp Corporation and was a member of Isle of Hope Baptist Church and a former member of the Sertoma Club and the Savannah Jaycees. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Beatrice Henderson Hancock.
Surviving are his sons, Raymond John Hancock, III of Savannah; Gary R. Hancock of Port Wentworth; Ronald J. Hancock and his wife, Clara of Bluffton; three grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Isle of Hope Baptist Church.
Graveside Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 17, 2011 in Bonaventure Cemetery with the Reverend Billy Miller officiating.

Always quick to smile, quick witted to the end, always good for a hug and maybe another one, there seemed to be a little twinkle in those blue eyes. Mr. Hancock was a sweet soul. I am happy to see his weary body at rest but sure hate to see him go. My thoughts and prayer go to each of his sons and families.
